Droids Custom Nein Nunb: Initial pencils!

The holidays are over, and we're well into 2026. That means it's time for me to start drawing. I didn't have any idea which character I was going to do next until an idea popped into my head. A rivalry. So I began with some sketches to get my head around how to compose it.

That was enough to get me started. Scene: two copilots jostling for the copilot chair. I looked up some diagrams of the Millennium Falcon cockpit, roughed out the geography, and started adding the characters...

And... it just wasn't working. The poses were not dynamic like I'd hoped. I was aiming for a slap fight sort of thing, which is difficult to convey in a static image. There's like no room on either side of the chair for it to actually make sense. So, I decided to erase it all and try something different.

Instead of a slap fight, what if Chewie just decided to yoink Nein Numb out of his chair? And it worked, at least compositionally. It was next time to actually draw some characters...

It was working out nicely! I'm particularly happy with the expression of dread I got out of Nein Numb's face... not something easy to achieve with a dead-eyed alien!

After that, I got working on the Falcon cockpit. I found some behind-the-scenes photos and CG renderings that gave me a good idea what the console and dashboard look like.

All that's left now is the background, which I hope to pencil over the next few days. I expect by next week I'll be sharing those and even some inks!
