BREW DOG LOST LAGER / COMBINER WARS ULTRA MAGNUS

Lost Lager is a 4.5% ABV Brew Dog offering that is, on the whole, refreshing. As a lager should be. However, it has a bit of a sour note to it, almost from the get-go, and it lingers a bit in the aftertaste. But then, it mellows fairly quickly, and leaves a refreshing not-too-hoppy tingle that makes your mouth water for more. The ingredients merely lists “Water, malted barley, yeast, hops.” Well, duh. Would’ve been nice to know what varieties, but . . . oh, well.

Lost is marketed as a “Planet First Lager,” the world’s first carbon-negative beer. It’s made at their carbon-negative brewery, powered by wind turbines, using 1⁄3 less water than comparable brews. And they’re also replanting trees to create the Lost Forest in the Scottish Highlands. For more information about their conservation plans, you can visit their webpage dedicated to this project.

To partner with this protective potable, I have chosen Ultra Magnus (specifically the Combiner Wars version), based on the version that is the Duly Appointed Enforcer of the Tyrest Accord and Third in Command of the exploration vessel The Lost Light in the IDW comics, from 2012 - 2018. The Tyrest Accord, named after Cybertronian Chief Justice Tyrest, is an outreach program designed to prevent Cybertronian weapons from falling into the hands of less-advanced species, with the idea of preventing the inevitable genocides, extinction events, and planetary destructions, should such an eventuality occur.

For eons, a ’bot known as Ultra Magnus has been The Duly Appointed Enforcer of the Tyrest Accord . . . but it’s not always been the same ’bot. As with James Bond or The Dread Pirate Roberts, Ultra Magnus is an identity that has been passed down through millions of years, with each subsequent ’bot taking on the role and wearing the customisable Magnus Armour.

The version pictured here is [ SPOILERS ] the latest upgrade of the Magnus Armour, as worn by Minimus Ambus, who is a TINY little dude who rides around in the chest cavity, piloting the Magnus Armour like a mech-suit.. Frankly, it’s not the best Ultra Magnus toy ever made, but he's lots of fun and I just really like him. And at least they used the right shade of blue on him. But I have also bedecked him with some fancy upgrade stickers from ToyHax.

Drink this if you also like: Good lagers in general, environmental causes.
