My issues with the current HasLab project

I started a new job last week, by the time I realized I had to get something for Bill to post by last Wed morning, it was already last Wednesday night, but I digress...

So, we have the first Black Series project in the form of a fearsome Rancor! You too can own one if you're willing to fork over $349.99. I understand that it has 45 points of articulation, an awesome paint job, a 42-inch arm span from talon to talon, etc... But here are my points of contention:

I was around back in the 80's when the original Rancor came out and I got one, since then we've had the "Power of the Force" Rancor, the Target exclusive "Force Unleashed" Battle Rancor, the TRU exclusive Rancor pit, a Funko Rancor, a Galactic Heroes Rancor, the ½ studio scale Rancor maquette by Red Empire Models, and the Gentle Giant Rancor statue, so even though this is the first in the "Black Series", the subject matter itself isn't new at all, not like the Khetanna or the Razor Crest.

The payments look to be processed on or around 12/7 of this year. It's not like we have any holidays or anything during December that people would need to be spending their money on, right?

A new crowdfunding campaign has begun, and people still haven't received the rewards from the last one (namely the Razor Crest and all of its stretch goals).

The first stretch goal is a Gamorrean Guard figure, how many of those do we have already?

The third stretch goal is a Salacious B. Crumb figure, if you got the Jabba the Hutt playset back in 1983, you already have that too.

The fourth stretch goal is a Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight figure, and yes, we've already had that in various reincarnations as well through the years.

So, the only NEW thing we're getting is with the second stretch goal - the bone accessory pieces, the Tatooine desert soil base, and the Rancor dungeon scene-inspired cardboard background. But they have to hit 13,500 backers just to get that, and as of writing this, with just over 15 days to go, they still need over 4,100 just to back the Rancor itself.

Now I'm sure that this project could still become a reality in the time that is left, I just think that the timing (with Christmas coming) is off. I'm still trying to decide if I should back it or not, I've always loved the Rancor, the question is do I want an additional $350 due on my credit card come January? Has anyone else "pulled the trigger" on this? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts, be they positive or negative.

In the meantime, from everyone here at, to all of you and your families, may you have a truly enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday.
