Droids Custom Ackbar: Even more mostly penciled!

So like I said last week, I've been playing a lot of Assassin's Creed Odyssey on my PS4. That sucked up a lot of my free time this past week. I spent the weekend doing yardwork on Saturday, then lying around recovering on Sunday. Rough job. Most of the grass on my back hillside was fried. So I pulled it all up and reseeded. Doing that on a slope is killer... developed blisters on my hand and foot, and I was aching all over. Took me most of 6 hours on Saturday to wrap it up, and I really pushed myself hard to finish as I had a 4pm appointment to film the premiere episode of CreatureCantina.com SUCKS LIVE Recorded. And I paid for it.

I was feeling better Monday, and decided to block out some time to work on Ackbar. This was the most critical part of the project - final pencils on the two characters. I pulled up The Usual Suspects on Amazon Prime for some ambiance and go to it.

These figures were deceptively tricky. Getting Madine's arm left was particularly difficult, even working from the photo I took of myself last week. I had to rework that thing at least a dozen times to get it where it is now. I'm still not 100% happy with Madine, but he's getting close. Don't know that I'll be able to get him much closer if I'm being 100% honest.

Ackbar presented entirely different problems. As I've explained many times before here, I consider the action figures the "source of truth" for my art in these customs. Ackbar's figure, particularly in the face, looks a lot different from Ackbar's costume in the movie. He's more slender, his face is more narrow and also more cartoony. That ended up working in my favor. I think Ackbar here really looks like a Droids cartoon version of Ackbar. I'm totally happy with his face and torso. I still need to work on his forearms and legs a bit. But the star of this piece is shining brightly. Really like how this is turning out now.

After the revisions I'm planning, all I'll have left is the background and Madine's chair. If I can pull myself away from my PS4 long enough, I should have the pencils done next week. Stay tuned!
