Talk about timing!

When writing last week's article about Amanda and Eric's birthdays, I had absolutely no idea what was to transpire this week. I saw on Monday afternoon that I had a missed call from Eric, which was odd because normally we communicate via text, not talking on the phone. Then Amanda calls, and everything becomes crystal clear. He had been calling to tell me what Amanda was telling me now, and that is that they are now ENGAGED! He wanted to propose to her on her birthday, but because of all this COVID-nonsense going on, he did not get the ring in the mail until after her birthday. So massive congratulations to them both!!!!

Breaking protocol somewhat, I drove up to their house on Tuesday as they had ordered pizza to celebrate, and we ate outside to try and keep some modicum of social distancing. Eric's cousin Dan was there as well, and it really was a nice afternoon. I got to see the ring in person, heard the story of how he proposed, and even saw the video! It started out with the two of them doing an unboxing video for the Harry Potter figure of Ginny Weasley, and ended with Eric getting down on one knee, popping the question, and Amanda saying “YES!” They are putting exact plans (date, location, etc...) on hold until the current situation improves.

I cannot remember the last time I saw them before this; I think it was when I went up to their house to watch the 3rd episode of the final season of “The Clone Wars”. It was good for me to just be able to get out of the house and be with people again. Considering both of my parents are deceased and I am an only child, I have pretty much been alone since the election ended on Mar 17th. It has not been the easiest of times for me as the things I like to do that keep me somewhat sane, like going to the movie theater and going to conventions, I have not been able to do (Nor has anyone, for that matter). The weather has been surprisingly cold for May, so getting outside has not always been the best option either.

It is so nice to know people like Eric, Amanda, and Dan, and I am very thankful for their friendships. Amanda has offered to teach me how to cook, but it's not just knowing how to cook for oneself that's important to me, it is more to the point that when I go up to their house to eat, I have someone to share a meal with other than the television. Going over To Eric's house, the positivity and joy that he and Amanda convey is truly contagious, and I always leave there with a nice warm feeling inside. In fact, more times than not, they have to kick me out (albeit in a VERY nice way) because I don't want to leave, having not much to go home to.

I may not have any immediate family left, but having friends like Eric, Amanda, and Dan that I can go and hang out with from time to time, makes a world of difference. So, if life blesses them with even a 10th of the happiness they have bestowed upon me since meeting Eric almost 5 years ago now, then they will truly have a wonderful life indeed! Now, all that is needed is for this Corona-crap to amscray so a wedding can start to be planned!
