SHOCKING revelation about the C-3PO Money Bank!

A couple weeks ago I was tagged in a For Sale post on Facebook by Big Picker James Simkins (thank you James!) for an Australian C-3PO "Money Bank." The sale included the original box, which is bold and funky. Image

So I was thinking "cool - but the Roman Ceramics banks are just ho-hum to me... do I really want to shell out a bunch of money just to get a different box for one?" After all, the Star Wars Collectors Archive described is very succinctly in a single sentence as "similar to the Roman Ceramics bank" (I'm recalling from memory here, since the site is currently down). So really... not much appeal.

But then I looked more closely at the photos. I noticed the bottom of the bank was metallic rather than just white like my Roman Ceramics example. And I though to myself "maybe they aren't really identical" and decided what the hell and I sent the seller Paul Naylor a PM.

Paul was diligent about packing the bank well so it wouldn't be damaged in its trans-pacific voyage from Australia. It arrived. I unboxed it. And *drum roll* ...was it noticeably different than the Roman Ceramics bank? Hooo-boy, was it! Image

The Australian bank is only about 70% the size of the Roman Ceramics bank! That's just completely unexpected! They must have used a pantograph or something to shrink down the RC mold ahead of production in Australia. And until I actually held them side-by-side, I didn't even realize it. Otherwise, they're nearly identical. The biggest difference being the metallic bottom with completely different copyright markings. Image Image

Just in case there's anyone out there who's curious (or super OCD), here's a clearer shot of the copyright text: Image

So yeah - I made the right decision going for this thing. Hopefully this article helps get out the word that the Australian Money Bank isn't just a repacked Roman Ceramics bank, but a piece that's in an entirely different scale. Now we just gotta wonder why the Aussies did this. Are their coins tiny or something??
