This, of course is where you will build your lightsaber. You must make a reservation and put down a deposit first with a credit card, just like with the Cantina. Upon arriving there, you must choose a hilt theme and once you do, you are given a cloisonné pin to identify your selection. You may choose from: Image

PEACE AND JUSTICE: Salvaged scraps from fallen Jedi temples and crashed starships in these Republic-era designs honor the galaxy’s former guardians.

POWER AND CONTROL: Originally forged by dark side warriors, this style features rumored remnants from the Sith homeworld and abandoned temples.

ELEMENTAL NATURE: This theme embodies the Force - an energy created by all living things, like Brylark trees, Cartusion whale bones, and Rancor teeth.

PROTECTION AND DEFENSE: Hilt materials bear mysterious motifs and inscriptions that reconnect users with the ancient wellspring of the Force.

I should also note that the experience takes place in an enclosed space with low lighting levels. Once you go inside, the helpers or “Gatherers” as they’re referred to, check to see which pin you’re wearing to make sure they give you the correct tray of parts which include:

  • 1 hilt
  • 4 sleeves (you’ll pick 2 of them)
  • 2 emitters (you’ll pick 1)
  • 2 pommel caps (you’ll pick 1)
  • 2 sets of activation plates and switches (you’ll pick 1 set)

You’ll also be selecting the color of your first kyber crystal. Again, you can choose from: red, blue, green, or violet.

The gatherers will “hopefully” assist you with assembling your lightsaber and answer any questions you may have. (I say “hopefully” because the woman who was supposed to help on our side of the workbench had what appeared to be a permanent scowl on her face and ran through the assembly instructions about as fast as podracers take corners.) Once you’ve completed the assembly process, the unused parts are returned to the workshop, and the gatherers make sure you’ve assembled your lightsaber correctly. (Fortunately, another woman came along and assisted me as it turned out I put mine together using both of the activation plates and neither of the switches!)

Upon insuring that your lightsaber is assembled correctly, they take it and insert it into part of the workbench near you (they’re attaching the hilt to the blade), then they activate it, part of the workbench rolls up, and you’re able to take your completed weapon out, admire it, and wave it about.

This wraps up your time in the workshop, they give you a very nice carrying case to pack your lightsaber in, then send you back on your way out onto the streets of Batuu.

If you’re planning on taking part in this experience, there are some other things you should be aware of, and these come directly from the Disney World website:

  • The cost is @199.99 per lightsaber + tax, and that includes the carrying case.
  • The reservations for this experience are nontransferable and may not be sold or bartered.
  • Payment is due upon arrival at the location.
  • Guests should check in no earlier than 15 minutes prior to their reservation time and each person must be present when you’re checking in. Late arrivals may not be accommodated.
  • One lightsaber per builder per experience.
  • Additional customization items (like other kyber crystals) can be purchased at Dok-Ondar's
  • Age recommendation: 5 years or older

The experience area is limited to the builder and one guest - at least one person in the party must be age 14 or older. The guest of the builder may not build a lightsaber when accompanying the builder. Custom lightsabers are nonrefundable and are not eligible for Annual Pass-holder or other discounts. If you need to cancel, you must do so at least 1 day prior to your reservation to avoid a per builder cancellation fee. If you fail to cancel and are a no-show, the credit card provided at time of reservation will be charged $199.99 per order. is not affiliated with Lucasfilm Ltd. or any of its licensees... damn them to hell.
