Action Figures & Their Beers - Sweet maple-y goodness!

MAPLEMOON

I like maple-flavoured things. The syrup is excellent, candies are great, maple cream sticks are amazing, and we used to be able to get some delicious maple-cream cookies in our nearest supermarket before the gits stopped importing them from Canada. So, what can there be not to like about maple-flavoured beer?

Anywho, the maple flavour is not hugely pronounced in Maplemoon. It’s a delicate aftertaste that you have to be expecting, or you may miss it. In fact, the maple taste is so delicate that if you drink this beer ice-cold, you’ll definitely miss it. Best let this brew warm up to around 40° F / 4° C or so. That said, it’s still a very nice, smooth beer, made with amber malt, cascade aroma hops, and a tinge (or “glimmer” or “twinkle,” if you believe the label) of Canadian maple. It was a silver medal winner at 2005’s International Brewing Awards, and is a decent 4.8% ABV. It’s brewed by the Joseph Holt Brewery of Manchester, a brewery that was founded in 1849 and has been in family hands for five generations. And long may they continue to produce such pleasing ale!

As for the action figure connection, you get maple syrup from maple trees, obviously. And I don’t have any Treebeard figures. But it turns out that T’raa Saa is of the Neti (or Ryyk) species, which means that for all intents and purposes, she’s a tree. A disturbingly hot, sexy tree. If more trees looked like her, we’d still have most of our global rainforests intact, I’d wager. And it’d give new meaning to “tapping that.” (Maybe three people in the whole world really got that joke; in a Venn diagram, there can’t be much overlap at all between the fields of Star Wars fans, agricultural plantation personnel, beer-drinkers, and speakers of modern slang.)
