Got up @ 5:30 am, skipped breakfast in order to catch the shuttle at 6:30, and pulled into the convention center @ 6:45. The good news was that the bus dropped us off right in front of the doors, the bad news was we had to walk all the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back to the end of the line, which was who knows where! It took at least an hour just to get through that line and actually enter the convention center. It was then I realized the reason for the hold up. Everyone had to go through metal detectors and have all bags checked. The problem was there were only @ 4 metal detectors for the thousands of people coming in. We finally made it through there, then were herded into the massive holding area. We walked past the rows and rows of people who had camped out the night before in the hopes of getting into the 40th Anniversary panel. I wanted to get into the designated line for tickets to be able to get the exclusive Hasbro Luke Skywalker X-Wing pilot figure, but found out that had been capped off long ago. So we got into the regular queue line with everyone else waiting to get onto the show floor and bided our time until 10:00 rolled around. Cell reception was atrocious, so spending the time checking e mails or playing games only succeeded in draining my battery. So instead I simply chatted with the other convention goers nearby.

Once the ten o’clock hour was upon us, we all marched into the convention area. My first stop was to meet up with Bill to get my share of the patches and buy one of the exclusive coins they were selling. After that, I headed back to the autograph area and bought a Thursday autograph/photo-op ticket for Ashley Eckstein, and a Sunday photo-op with the Rebel Pilots trio (Hagon, Lawson, & MacInnes). I already had autograph tickets for today for Brian Herring, Jimmy Vee, and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. Plus, my Thursday photo-ops were with Brian Herring, Jimmy Vee, and Peter Mayhew. So the bulk of the first day was spent back there. Getting into the Celebration store was out of the question, every time I went by, it was a 2-3 hour wait to get in there. But I did manage to pick up all of the five SWC exclusive art prints I had pre-ordered. By the time I got done with all of that, it was pretty close to closing time, but as I was heading towards the exit, I was able to get in the line for the Hot Wheels exclusive Biggs car. They had sets available for purchase of the other cars in the 40th anniversary packaging, but I opted to pass on those as I already had them in their original packaging. So I got up to the cashier and told them what I wanted, paid my $10.00, and they turned around and handed me a bag that contained ALL of the cars! Needless to say I then proceeded to leave that area post haste! Just on a whim, I stopped by the Hasbro booth to see if they still had any of the exclusive figures left and was told "Indeed we do!" So I jumped into that line right before they cut it off and was able to add one of those gems to my collection. By the time we got to the Cartamundi booth to get their exclusive card for the day, they were long out of them. But all in all, not a bad day’s work for the first day of the convention.

We left the convention center, boarded the bus that would take us back to our hotel, dropped our stuff off, then headed down the street to Perkins, a local restaurant for some dinner. The rest of the night we just relaxed in the hotel room and readied ourselves for day II. is not affiliated with Lucasfilm Ltd. or any of its licensees... damn them to hell.
